Julia Gabriel Centre Speech Communication Arts Programme

(1½ hours weekly)

The Julia Gabriel Centre Speech Communication Arts programme has been inspiring confident communication for 35 years, helping primary students develop presentation skills, language skills, and expressive speaking, through drama, speech work, and literacy activities.  As one of the leading speech and drama classes in Singapore, it fosters creativity, problem-solving and social awareness.

For younger students (ages 7–8), the programme builds confidence and conversation skills, preparing them for Levels 1 and 2 of Trinity College London’s Speech Communication Arts syllabus. By developing these core skills early, the programme provides a strong foundation that makes it an excellent option as an enrichment class for primary levels.

Older students (ages 9–12) focus on developing critical thinking, public speaking, and expressive communication, progressing through Levels 3 to 6 of the syllabus. These skills equip them to communicate effectively in both formal and informal settings.

By the end of the programme, students emerge as confident, articulate speakers who can engage thoughtfully in discussions and present their ideas with clarity and poise. These are lifelong communication skills that empower them in school—and beyond.

In the Julia Gabriel Centre Speech Communication Arts programme, students:

  • Focus on communication, conversation, and discussion skills.
  • Develop the ability to express ideas, needs, and interests confidently in both personal and public settings.
  • Find solutions while building self-esteem and resilience through drama-based activities.
  • Widen and deepen reading and literacy skills through recording their responses to stories and drama activities in pictorial and written form.
  • Enhance articulation, presentation skills, and public speaking confidence during speech and drama classes.

Older children (ages 9 to 12) will also:

  • Develop critical thinking skills and confidence to express ideas in formal and informal communication situations.
  • Master skills needed to read and perform literature expressively with clarity and emotion.
  • Plan and deliver structured presentations with persuasive techniques.
  • Critique and review books to improve comprehension and analytical abilities.
  • Create, structure and narrate stories with engaging plotlines and expressive delivery.
  • Participate in enrichment classes for primary students to build leadership and teamwork skills through collaborative drama projects.

This holistic approach ensures that students enrolled in speech and drama classes in Singapore gain essential communication skills that will serve them well in both academic and social environments.

Speech and Drama:

An Effective Way to Develop Communication Skills

Many students struggle with oral communication because traditional classroom learning often focuses on written skills. Speech and drama enrichment offers a hands-on, experiential approach where children actively participate, collaborate, and learn through exploration, collaboration and joyful interactions

Our programme is designed to make learning enjoyable while ensuring long-term skill development. Children leave each session with greater confidence and enthusiasm for expressing themselves.
